Australian oil and mining giant BHP Billiton has recorded a 16% increase in oil production following a quarterly review.
Petroleum output in September was a record 62.7million barrels of oil equivalent, with the biggest contribution coming from onshore US operations, the company said.
A higher number of Eagle Ford wells, increased volumes at Black Hawk and the start-up of a new production well at Atlantis all contributed to a 29% increase in liquids’ production in the US compared to the previous quarter.
An additional Atlantis production well is scheduled for completion in the second half of the 2014 financial year, the company said in a statement.
However, BHP’s natural gas production declined by 6% on the previous quarter despite drawing first gas from the American Macedon project in August 2013.
