Petrobras has announced today the completion of a formation test in a Sergipe-Alagoas Basin licence.
The appraisal well in the BM-SEAL-11concession area, informally known as Farfan 1 and drilled to the depth of 5,609 meters, has confirmed production volumes of good quality oil.
The news followed a company strike against a planned auction for rights to explore an offshore field near Rio de Janeiro.
Union leaders said 90% of Petrobras’ employees participated in the action, which disrupted production at 42 platforms and several refineries.
The protesters said the Libra oilfield auction will damage national interests by allowing foreign companies to share production rights with Petrobras.
“The country understands the strikes,” said Brazil’s Mines and Energy Minister Edison Lobao, but added that the auction would go ahead as planned on Monday.
