Martin Houston has quit his role as chief operating officer with energy giant BG Group.
The 56-year-old, who joined British Gas in 1983, is to step down from the company’s board and executive committee with immediate effect, and will retire from the group by the end of 2014.
Sami Iskander, currently executive vice president of operations, will take over the role from Houston with immediate effect.
“The board and I would like to sincerely thank Martin for his outstanding contribution to BG Group, and its predecessor companies, over the last 30 years,” said BG Group chairman Andrew Gould.
“He was one of the principal architects of the Group’s LNG and shipping business during the formative years. We have benefited greatly from Martin’s support and the value that he has added to the group.”
In the last year, Houston has been working on the company’s Queensland Gas Company venture, developing natural gas in Australia, and will remain on that project until his retirement.
Houston joined the company’s predecessor in 1983 as a petroleum geologist, rising to become executive vice president at BG Group in 2000.
