Former SSE chief executive Ian Marchant has been named as the new chairman of oil services giant John Wood Group.
Mr Marchant, who stepped down from the utilities firm last summer after 11 years, will replace Allistair Langlands when he retires in May.
He has been a director with Wood Group since 2006, and was made a senior non-executive director in May 2012.
He is also chairman of the Maggies Cancer Centre charity, and president of the UK’s Energy Institute.
“Ian has made an outstanding contribution to the board as a non-executive director, as chairman of the Audit Committee and, latterly as our senior independent non-executive director,” said Mr Langlands.
“Following his retirement as Chief Executive of SSE, the board and the nomination committee are delighted that he has agreed to succeed me as chairman of Wood Group.”
Langlands had been chairman of Wood Group since 2012, after joining the firm as finance director in 1991, before moving up to group chief executive in 2007.
He will retire following the firm’s annual general meeting on May 14.
“Allister has been an outstanding leader and the architect of much of the Group’s organic and acquisitive growth over 23 years including, most recently, the acquisition of PSN, the sale of the group’s Well Support business and the proposed rotating equipment joint venture with Siemens,” said Mr Marchant.
“Since his appointment as chairman in 2012, he has provided valuable continuity and support for Bob Keiller as he has taken over leadership of the group.
“My board colleagues and I wish Allister every happiness in his retirement and I look forward to working with Bob and his executive team in the next phase of the Group’s development.”
