The Maersk Highlander has arrived at its North Sea destination to work on the Culzean project.
Last month, it was one of two Maersk rigs to arrive at the shipyard in Invergordon.
The jack-up rig will carry out a number of commissioning tasks before it is deemed ready for action to work on the £3billion Culzean gas development.
The Culzean field is located 250km east of Aberdeen.
Production at the Maersk-operated field is expected to start in 2019 and continue into the 2030s, with production forecast to peak at the equivalent of 60,000 to 90,000 barrels of oil per day.
Maersk snapped up the Highlander from US owner Hercules Offshore, which was battling downturn finances.
The rig, which had a final payment of $190million, will begin a five-year drilling campaign.
Earlier this year, BP doubled its stake in Culzean as part of the energy giant’s £7billion investment programme in the region.
The company raised its holding from 16% to 32% in the development, which is expected to produce enough gas to meet 5% of total UK demand by 2021.
