Ultrasonic-inspection firm Sonomatic has said it expects to create at least 20 new jobs at its delayed £4million Aberdeen facility.
Sonomatic, which provides subsea services to customers in the oil and gas industry globally, had expected construction to get under way at The Core business park in November.
But some tinkering with the new base’s features, and with plans for the transfer of administration staff, has pushed the ground-breaking back until Monday.
The firm’s technical staff will move straight into the facility, which is slated to open this summer, while the admin staff will initially remain at the existing base on Claymore Drive.
Sonomatic thinks the move will let it add 15 full-time employees to its 20-strong workforce in the short term. Long term, it thinks it could find room for 20 to 70 new employees.
Divisional manager Tracy Anderson said the facility will take Sonomatic to the next level. She said: “We’re opening the facility to be able to provide a complete inspection service, advanced and conventional. We’ve only got an advanced service now.”
The proximity of the business park to the Aberdeen bypass is also expect to cut turnaround times and bring in new customers.
Ms Anderson said: “The reason we chose this location is that the bypass will be just half a mile from our front door. We’re hoping to attract more clients from that. It’ll mean we can work with more speed.”
The Core is a 100-acre business park under development next to Murcar Links Golf Club in the Bridge of Don area.
