An IT expert from Aberdeen’s Robert Gordon University (RGU) has taken part in an international conference highlighting how oil and gas companies can better protect themselves from cyber threats.
Professor Chrisina Jayne, head of RGU’s School of Computing Science and Digital Media, attended the Global Forum on Cyber Security for the Oil and Gas Industry in Amsterdam last week.
Prof. Jayne gave a presentation entitled The Internet of Things: Security Challenges.
The annual forum, featuring speakers from Statoil, Total and the Industrial Cybersecurity Centre (CCI), is now in its third year.
It brings together information technology experts from leading oil and gas companies, as well as other bodies.
It focuses on questions of information security and cyber threats, SCADA and mobility effects; discussing the latest EU legislative updates, advanced external and internal cyber threats, analysing available counter-measures and the costs.
Prof. Jayne said: “Cyber security is a growing issue for the oil and gas industry and one which is constantly evolving so it is vital for companies to invest in protecting themselves against cyber threats.
“RGU maintains close links with industry in order to ensure our graduates are equipped with the most relevant skills and experience and recently introduced Masters courses in Information and Network Security and IT for the Oil and Gas Industry in response to the demand for employees with particular strengths in these areas.”
