OTC 2016 takes place in Houston from May 2-5 against one of the toughest periods facing the energy sector in a generation.
North-east Scotland business are expected to have a strong presence, despite the downturn.
Energy industry travel experts Munro’s Travel said there continued to be strong demand for the annual oil and gas show.
Munro’s and the Press and Journal are organising their regular visit to OTC for delegates through a tie-up which dates back to 1973.
Ian Massie, head of group conference, at Munro’s said: “Demand from local business has been steady, with companies determined to attend despite the difficulties facing the oil and gas sector here in the UK.
“OTC brings together industry leaders, investors, buyers and entrepreneurs to develop markets and create business partnerships. Many of our customers have been attended for many years and we are delighted to welcome them once again.”
Around 150 delegates have already signed up for the event with more expected to commit to OTC in coming days.
Murray Bainbridge, senior international trade executive at Scottish Enterprise said SE’s Scotland pavilion would once again host a varied array of company’s at OTC.
“We currently have 59 companies planning to join the Scotland pavilion at the moment. 24 are taking exhibition space while the remainder are on our visitor package so will have access to the pavilion, networking activity, but no dedicated space.”
Bainbridge said there were eight new companies exhbiting in 2016 with 14 business visiting the world largest oil and gas expo for the first time.
Leading deck machinery specialist ACE Winches, had no hesitation in exhibiting at OTC 2016.
Graham Thomson, Global Sales Director stated “Being at OTC gives us an additional platform to respond to, engage and collaborate with key global customers.
“Following last year’s OTC we secured orders with major clients State-side coupled with a buoyant start to the year we have deployed more equipment and personnel to the Gulf of Mexico.”
ACE Winches, which is exhibiting in the Scottish Pavilion, is working with a number of key operators to ensure they are aware of the economies of scale that can be achieved through global frame agreements.
Munro’s package includes a golf day option and networking opportunities at the HQ hotel, the Hilton Post Oak.
More than 94,700 attendees from 130 countries gathered at the annual conference, demonstrating OTC’s position as the leading forum to exchange ideas and opinions to advance scientific and technical knowledge.
Last year’s conference also had 2,682 companies exhibiting, up from 2,568 in 2014, representing 37 countries. International companies made up 42% of exhibitors.
“OTC drew everyone from CEOs to engineers to government officials,” said Ed Stokes, chairman of OTC.
Munro’s has been a dominant player in the travel industry in Aberdeen for more than 100 years and employs more than 120 people at its offices in Union Street.
