Offshore workers have banded together for a charity video single that could storm the charts to raise money for a Scottish cancer charity.
The single Wheels Keep Turning – written Scottish rock band Estrella – was the idea of OffshoreCLAN, set up by a trio of Aker Solutions employees as part of project management competition.
Cammy Bowden, Stephen Wares, Kevin Kilroy decided to raise money for CLAN Cancer Support the local charity providing support to people affected by cancer across north-east Scotland, Moray, Orkney and Shetland.
As part of an annual Association of Project Management Charity Challenge, they were tasked with brainstorming a fundraising idea which would eventually be judged by a panel of Project Management judges.
“We thought it would be a good idea to get everyone we knew involved,” explained Cammy, who works as a cost engineer with Aker in Aberdee.
“Our concept was to create an Oil & Gas related music video, with all proceeds going to to CLAN.”
“We considered doing an ‘Amarillo’ version like Peter Kay, but there were a lot of copyright issues. Stephen approached Estrella and the guys in the band said yes straight away. They were brilliant,” said Cammy.
The video, produced by the Thurso-based foursome, features game for a laugh oil workers miming and dancing to the track, which is available to download on iTunes and other online music outlets.
Cammy added: “We hope as many people as possible buy the song, if we sell 7,000 copies we could even make the Top 40 singles chart!”
