Aberdeen’s hydrogen bus project has proved influential in storage and fuel company ITM Power signeing an agreement with BOC for the installation of infrastructure at its electrolyser-based hydrogen refuelling stations for passenger cars.

The station features Linde’s IC-90 ionic compressors and in its first year had total fuel availability, dispensing over 35,000 kg of hydrogen to the buses and has proved extremely reliable, said ITM.
ITM is looking to build a network of hydrogen refuelling stations around the UK, having launched its first site in Rotherham in September 2015.
BOC will source and install parent company Linde Group technology, including hydrogen compressors and dispensers, at ITM’s new hydrogen refuelling stations.
ITM has plans and funding under way to deploy eight hydrogen refuelling stations in and around London, and expects to open its first London station in May and the second in July.
“We are delighted to be working with BOC who have a significant leading role in the UK delivering onsite solutions for industrial and fuel gases,” said Chief Executive Graham Cooley.
Hydrogen-powered vehicles emit only water vapour, produce no carbon emissions or air pollution, have a range of several hundred miles and refuel in three minutes.
Opened in 2011, BOC’s hydrogen refuelling station at Honda’s site in Swindon employs BOC filling technology to serve passenger cars, light goods vehicles (LGVs) and forklift trucks.
