Maersk Drilling has bought a jack-up newbuild which will be used at the company’s Culzean development in the North Sea.
The newbuild was bought from US owner Hercules Offshore.
The company said it expects immediate delivery from the Jurong Shipyard in Singapore with Maersk Drilling assuming the right to take delivery of the rig and Maersk Drilling settling the final payment of approximately $190million with Jurong.
After delivery, the rig is expected to be mobilised to the North Sea to commence a five-year drilling contract with Maersk Oil on the Culzean gas field.
