The Scottish Parliament is set to debate a ban on fracking as part of Holyrood land and reform debate later today.
The new Environment Secretary Roseanna Cunningham will lead a debate which calls for a “sustainable low-carbon economy”.
An amendment has been tabled by Scottish Labour calling for a full ban on fracking.
It comes as the Scottish Government continues with a moratorium on fracking.
Last month, Third Energy was given approval by North Yorkshire County Council for fracking to take place in Ryedale.
The SNP said in the lead up to the Scottish elections that it was committed to there being no fracking in Scotland “unless it can be proven beyond doubt” there is no risk to to health, communities or the environment.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has previously said she is “highly sceptical” about the technique.
The Environment Secretary has tabled a motion for the meeting which asks parliament to agree that “Scotland’s stunning natural environment is one of its most previous assets” and that “wise and productivve use of the country’s natural capital is at the heart of a strong, sustainable, low-carbon economy”.
