Oklahoma’s medical examiner has said a single-car crash which killed US oilman Aubrey McClendon was an “accident”, echoing findings released earlier by police.
Investigators said there was no evidence the businessman had committed suicide.
Police had been assessing the incident since March when the shale pioneer was killed after a one car crash.
Oklahoma City Police said: “We were unable to find any evidence that would lead us to believe it was anything other than a vehicular accident.”
The crash saw McClendon drive his Chevy Tahoe into a bridge, a day after he was indicted for allegedly rigging the price of oil and gas leases.
However, the investigation stopped short of completely ruling out suicide.
“We may never know one-hundred percent what happened,” Capt. Balderrama said.
The medical examiner assigned to the case is still to release a final report on McClendon’s death
