A merger between BP Norge and Det Norske could lead to redundancies, according to reports.
Oil major BP and Det Norske earlier today announced plans to create Norway’s largest independent oil and gas producer.
Aker BP will combine the two businesses and will be listed on the Oslo stock exchange.
Around 850 of BP’s employees are expected to be transferred to the combined organisation on completion of the deal which is worth around $140million.
According to reports in Norwegian media, the new company will be headquartered at Fornebu.
A spokesman said the “whole organisation” would be looked at as a whole following the completion of the merger.
He said while there was opportunities for “ heavy industrial investment” it was clear there “may be major synergies”.
BP Norge is currently headquartered in Stavanger.
The merger is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of this year.
