Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) delivered the world’s largest semisubmersible drilling rig to Diamond Offshore.
Dubbed Ocean Greatwhite, the $630million semisub has been chartered for work in the Great Australian Bight.
“The close cooperation between Diamond Offshore and HHI on the basis of mutual trust is what made the delivery of Ocean Greatwhite possible,” a Hyundai Heavy Industries said in the press release.
The massive delivery comes after staff voted to strike, according to local media.
The vote was in response to cut wages and the firm’s restructuring plans, which include 1,000 job losses.
HHI and staff have been in negotiations since May.
The vote comes the same week North Sea staff set a date for the first strike in a generation. Read more here.
