The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has granted Statoil consent for a drilling permit in the North Sea.
The company will drill well 6407/7-9 from the Songa Delta facility.
The drilling programme for the well related to an exploration well where Statoil is operator with a 20% stake.
The production licence was awarded in 2009 and is the first exploration well to be drilled within the licence.
The drilling permit is contingent upon the operator securing all other permits and consents required by other authorities prior to commencing drilling activities.
