Centrica has begun a consultation with staff over onshore jobs in its UK operations.
The company is understood to be in talks with staff at both its Aberdeen offices as well as Morecambe Bay.
The move is not expected to affect offshore staff.
In April, Centrica announced it expected to cut about 3,000 jobs this year.
A total of 800 of those had been shifted in the first three months of the year.
A spokesman for the company said:“As part of our work to maximise the potential of our assets in the North Sea and Morecambe Bay, we are looking at how we manage our operations across the region.
“As we continue to invest in our business, we want to make sure we are set up to continue producing gas for UK homes for many years to come.
“We are consulting with our employees about our proposals and our focus will be on our people and maintaining safe operations.”
The job losses are part of the firm’s £750million per annum cost efficiency programme. To date, the firm has reduced its net debt to £4.4billion.
