Eni has been issued with an order from the Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA).
It comes after a number of incidents on the Goliat field.
In August, the Goliat suffered a power outage and production was halted.
The incident is being investigated by Eni but comes after a similar incident in May this year.
The PSA said on the basis of both these incidents a notification of order was given to the company.
Eni will now have to submit the provisional results and recommended measures from the investigation to the PSA by September 5th.
The PSA said once the investigation has been completed Eni will present a binding, time-delimited schedule with deadline for implementing corrective measures following the incident and a description of any compensatory measures to be deployed until the non-conformities have been rectified.
Earlier today Norwegian politician Anniken Hauglie, who is Minister of Labour and Social Inclusion in the Scandinavian country, called for a meeting with the PSA to discuss what measures could be taken to enforce stricter supervision of oil companies.
