A 10-year contract has been awarded to provide bus services for workers during the building of the new nuclear power station at Hinkley.
The contract, announced a day after the Government gave the go-ahead for the £18 billion project, is a joint venture between First Bus and Crosville Motor Services.
Buses will transport workers to the Somerset site from park and ride areas as well as surrounding towns and villages.
Around 300 jobs will be created for the service, which will use 160 new, environmentally friendly buses.
Jonathan Jones Pratt, chairman of Crosville Motor Services, part of the JJP Group, said: “This is great news for our company and this region of the UK, especially given the local training
legacy that we will bring to the table.”
Alex Carter, managing director of First Bus in the South West, said: “This contract is great news for our business and the wider community, and will help to secure and create jobs.
“We look forward to providing EDF Energy’s employees with simple, seamless, frequent and reliable bus services during the construction period.”
