Union members have voted to accept Wood Group’s fresh proposals on changes to their contracts.
The move comes after weeks of talks following the first strike action in more than a generation.
Hundreds of workers backed industrial action across seven of Shell’s North Sea assets.
Last month both sides agreed to get back around the negotiating table in a bid to reach a settlement with both sides appearing to make concessions.
Members of Unite who were balloted voted 105 to 82 in favour of the fresh proposals.
A statement on behalf John Boland of Unite and Jake Molloy of RMT, said:“Our members have narrowly voted to accept the new proposals which were negotiated by Unite, RMT and the shop stewards negotiating committee. In accepting the new deal the workforce have had to consider every aspect of the current economic climate and balance this against their aspirations and expectations. They have done this and rightly expect the industry to do likewise when those economic conditions change. As an organised workforce they will certainly expect this and will invariably seek to influence that process.
“The Wood Group workforce are to be applauded for their efforts and resilience as they have undoubtedly achieved a victory in the face of substantial pressures from not only their employers but the corporate pressure of the clients and industry generally.
“They were told from the outset they were wrong, but they have proven the doubters wrong and negotiated on their terms to lessen the impact of the substantive cuts they faced. The workforce can now look forward to working with their employer in the development of programmes which can further enhance their conditions while delivering on efficiencies and productivity.
“We congratulate the Unite and RMT members and we will continue to support them and workers across the sector during this difficult time for the sector.”
Paul Atkinson, chief executive of the Offshore Contractors Association (OCA), said: “I am delighted that members of Unite have voted to accept this proposal from Wood Group. We must all work together to maximise economic recovery from the UK Continental shelf and secure jobs for many years to come. Today’s decision is a very welcome move in that direction.”
