Oil major Chevron has reaffirmed plans to drill four exploration wells in the Great Australian Bight.
It comes despite oil giant BP withdrawing from its exploration of the region.
According to reports, a senate committee hearing was told by Chevron Australia’s general manager that the firm was still planning to drill next year or in 2018.
David Moffat said he also expects oil prices to rebound.
He said the company had successfully drilled more than 80 wells off Western Australia without a single loss-of-control incident.
BP announced last month it would not proceed with planned exploration drilling in the Great Australian Bight.
