Police are investigating the death of a worker following an “industrial incident” on a gas platform off the coast of Norfolk earlier this week.
Oil and gas firm Perenco confirmed the man was fatally injured on its 23A gas platform in the southern North Sea on Monday.
Norfolk police said the worker had been flown to Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, where he passed away.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident alongside the UK Health and Safety Executive.
The deceased has not been identified.
A spokesman for Perenco said: “We are working closely with the Health and Safety Executive and other relevant authorities to investigate the circumstances in which a man died after an incident (on Monday) on board our 23A gas platform in the southern North Sea.
“The platform, 70 miles off the coast of Norfolk, has been shut down and gas supplies halted.
“We are doing all we can to support the man’s family in these difficult times.”
A spokesman for Norfolk Constabulary said: “We can confirm we have launched a joint investigation with the Health and Safety Executive following the death of a man on an offshore platform on Monday, 5 December 2016.
“Officers were called at 12.55pm to reports that a man had been flown to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital with serious injuries but sadly died later.
“At this stage it is being treated as an industrial incident and enquiries are underway to establish the events leading up to the man’s death.”
