Japanese firm Inpex has signed a memorandum of understanding for the development of an Iranian oilfield in which it used to hold a stake, a news report said.
Inpex is a strong candidate for developing Azadegan following the signing of the memorandum, Kyodo News reported, citing an official from Iran’s Petroleum Engineering and Development Company.
Inpex declined to comment on the report.
The energy developer had to relinquish its stake in the oilfield in 2010 due to the imposition of western sanctions on Iran.
