French energy giant Engie is to close it’s London office with exploration and production (E&P) operations to be managed out of its Aberdeen HQ.
The electric utility company, formerly known as GDF Suez, said it was making the changes to its hydrocarbons arm due to the “significant fall” in commodity prices over recent years.
Engie E&P International said the reorganisation was the result of widespread “consultation, relocations and redeployments” within the Engie group as a whole.
These moves are expected to be complete by summer of 2017.
A company spokesman said: “Under the new structure, ENGIE E&P’s UK business will be managed out of our Aberdeen office, which will also host ENGIE’s global centre of excellence for well engineering.
“Our London office will, however, close during the course of 2017.
“A staff consultation is underway.”
In December last year ENGIE E&P delivered first gas from Cygnus, the largest gas discovery in the Southern North Sea for 30 years.
The Engie spokesman added: “We look forward to coordinating safe and successful operations from Aberdeen, including the fully commissioning of Cygnus Bravo, during 2017.”
