Supermajor BP is the latest company to welcome North Sea talks on possible changes to the tax regime.
It comes after the Chancellor unveiled plans to assemble an expert panel to look at the transfer of tax relief on mature assets between operators.
A BP spokesman said: “We welcome today’s announcement by the Chancellor of further support for the oil and gas industry.
“It is important that the North Sea’s tax regime reflects the maturity of the basin as well as the challenging commercial environment.
“Today’s budget is a further step in building the international competitiveness of the North Sea, and supports the action that industry has been taking to become more efficient.”
