Step Change in Safety (SCiS) has released a report designed to enchance safety, standardise common practices and saves time and money to the wider UK oil and gas industry.
The suite of ‘working tools’ streamlines training and basic safety practices, including Toolbox Talks, Dynamic Risk Assessment and Observation Cards, for those working both onshore and offshore.
‘Safe Working Essentials Tool’ is a result of twelve months of development and engagement with members and the offshore workforce, and is officially being rolled out to the wider industry, by Step Change in Safety’s Simplification Steering Group.
Erik-Jan Bijvank, co-chair of Step Change in Safety’s Simplification Steering Group, said: “After a successful trial phase on 23 sites, we’re pleased to be rolling out the Safe Working Essentials Tool.
“This is truly a collaborative piece of work between the operators and contractors, trade unions, the workforce and the Health and Safety Executive. By working with these groups, we’ve identified three common processes which could to be aligned in order to enhance productivity, cost efficiency and, most importantly safety.”
Scottish Enterprise, as part of the Energy Jobs Taskforce, has awarded the member-led organisation £30,000 to support the project with funding directed towards the distribution of information materials offshore.
