On April 26, 1986 a disaster that would affect the entire Western world unfolded.
Following a planned shutdown at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in the Ukraine an explosion and subsequent fire broke out.
Super heated fuel rods entered the cooling water and sparked a reaction that ended up blowing the protection around reactor four.
The fire allowed radioactive particles to escape high into the atmosphere.
The particles were later detected in rain as far away as Ireland.
Tens of thousands of people had to be evacuated from the surrounding areas, including the now infamous town of Pripyat.
The result has been a string of coast towns across the region, left to rot and ruin in the wake of the nuclear disaster.
