The world’s first “world’s first intelligent energy plant” is now on sale in the UK.
The giant solar powered flower is a garden-based gadget that fans out its 18m² petals at dawn to capture the sun’s rays.
The ‘face’ tracks the sun throughout the day to capture the maximum amount of solar energy.
And the Austrian firm behind the design claim that one flower is capable of producing the equivalent of a 4kW rooftop system.
The huge device, intended for homes and businesses, can operate in temperatures of -20°C up to 50°C, with energy stored in integrated batteries which can be synchronised up to appliances.
Smartflower chief executive Maximilian Deubner said: “We are currently setting up a distribution network of premium partners in the UK. The UK renewable market is very exciting and fast paced – including with e-mobility—and the smartflower is an important part of that rapidly evolving market.
“I believe that with smartflower the UK is for the first time offered a visually appealing and unique solar solution. Now, thanks to Smartflower’s sun-tracking and storage option, you can enjoy between 60-100% of the produced energy yourself, instead of selling into the grid at unprofitable rates.”
Even former governor of Califorina and known eco-activist Arnold Schwarzenegger is a fan of the flower-inspired tech, according to SmartFlower’s website.
