An Aberdeenshire-based power turbine firm is toasting record sales and predicting further strong growth after investing more than £1million in workshop and office space expansion.
Alba Power, based at Netherley, near Stonehaven, said its first-quarter sales for 2017 were worth in excess of £10million.
Sales director Campbell Archibald added: “This is the first time that we have achieved such a robust start in any quarter.
“It is a wonderful start to the year for Alba and continues our ongoing growth, which will only be supported by the investment in and the imminent opening of our £1million workshop extension.”
Mr Archibald, currently over in the US working on new export business, is one of three directors at the family-owned firm.
The senior management trio also includes managing director Terry Alderton and director-general manager Neil McKenzie.
Alba, which employs 54 people, was founded in 2000 and has been in the hands of a private trust since 2004.
With a head office in Scotland and a base in Houston, the company is focused on several key areas: gas, power and marine turbine services; spare parts; controls; package supply and renovation; and consultancy work.
Its recent investment in expanding the facilities at Netherley has doubled the workshop and office space to more than 27,000sq ft.
The extra accommodation is aimed at helping the company to grow capacity within its RB211 marine and power turbines business.
Mr McKenzie said: “It allows us to continue to develop in line with our growth plans and build on the successes of the last few years.
“We pride ourselves on our service levels and turnaround times, and our new workshop will only help us enhance these further.”
Last year, Alba Power came top among five Scottish firms in a league table ranking the 100 UK small and medium-sized enterprises with the fastest-growing international sales. The second annual Sunday Times Heathrow SME Export Track 100 list put Alba in 25th spot overall after 99% growth in exports over two years.
Alba’s international sales in 2015 were valued at £17.3million, making up the bulk of business worth £21.1million.
The firm had customers in 16 countries.
The company has recently branched out into new markets, including work with foreign navies whose vessels use turbines.
It also joined industry body Decom North Sea, with a view to trying to secure more contracts for decommissioning projects.
Accolades for the company include it being named export achievement winner at the 2015 SPE Offshore Achievement Awards.
