In 2014, Plant Integrity Management Limited (PIM) was awarded an ongoing contract for the risk based inspection (RBI) review of the pressure safety valve recertification (PSV) results.
The work, which was undertaken using PIM’s proprietary PSV software, PIM Relief, covered 11 of Maersk Oil Danish Business Unit’s platforms including Tyra and Gorm.
This followed an initial PSV consequence assessment which was carried out by PIM in 2013. The RBI covered 2,249 valves with the valve population made up of 761 hydrocarbon valves and 1,488 non hydrocarbon valves. Prior to the initial PSV consequence assessment, which was carried out in 2013, each valve was inspected every 24 months.
The consequence assessment resulted in the average inspection interval being extended out to 34 months. The ongoing RBI review of the PSV recertification results has delivered further improvements with the average inspection interval now sitting at almost 36 months.
Colin Shields, valve specialist at PIM said: “Extending the inspection interval following a comprehensive RBI gives the client confidence that their pressure safety valves are being correctly managed while ensuring the safe and effective operating of their asset. At the same time, it delivers cost and time savings which, while difficult to quantify, cannot be denied.”
He concluded: “The results speak for themselves, in 2013 the average inspection interval for each PSV was 34.31 months, by 2016 this had been further extended to 35.98 months.”
