It was the end of an era yesterday afternoon when the final accommodation barge used to house oil and construction workers left Lerwick.
The Bibby Stockholm was guided out of Morrison Dock by the towing vessel Mustang as it headed to Bornholm in Denmark.
The barge has been an ever-present near to the Co-op supermarket since it first arrived in Shetland in 2013.
It housed construction workers who were building the Shetland Gas Plant at Sullom Voe, but it is said to have been largely unoccupied over the last 15 months.
A number of floatels were berthed in Lerwick during the plant’s construction, including the Sans Vitesse, which attracted interest due to its distinctive Zebra-style design.
Lerwick Port Authority chief executive Sandra Laurenson said the income from the barges have been put to “good use” by being reinvested into future developments.
