Statoil said today that the turbines for its groundbreaking floating wind farm project could be in position off Peterhead as early as July.
The five turbines for Hywind have been assembled at a base on Stord, located north of Stavanger.
Weather permitting, they will be lifted onto their floating supports by the Saipem 7000 crane ship next week.
The 600-ft tall turbines will then be towed across the North Sea and moored in the Buchan Deep, 15 miles off Peterhead, in July or August, Statoil said.
Production is expected to start late-2017.
