A Highlander has risen up the ranks of an oil and gas company due to completing an engineering degree from Robert Gordon University.
Ewen Nobel went to Total as an apprentice after leaving school because he wanted to gain hands on experience.
But the 27-year-old then started a degree after the company agreed to sponsor his studies.
And their investment proved worthwhile as he graduated with distinction.
The Inverness man said: “I always planned to go to university but as I left school I wanted to gain practical site-based industry experience.
“When I left school I entered into an apprenticeship with a major exploration and production oil company, a company I am still employed with today and who kindly sponsored me through my degree.”
And how he has started working as a process and flow assurance engineer with Total.
He said: “I did distance learning and the university were really good about it, I only had to come to Aberdeen to do exams so I was able to work offshore during my studies.
“The various subsea related modules were something I enjoyed and felt very valuable for my current line of work.
“I plan to use the experience I have gained so far, coupled with my academic achievement to continue to progress my career in the energy industry.”
