A US operator has been warned by the UK safety watchdog over failures in connection with the maintenance of emergency shut down valves on a field in the Irish Sea.
EOG Resources’ UK arm is responsible for a production and a condensate injection pipeline on the Douglas complex, 15 miles off the Welsh coast.
The three linked platforms are operated by Italian supermajor Eni.
A Health and Safety inspections at the end of may found that EOG had failed to to demonstrate suitable management procedures and controls in place to ensure that the valves are being tested to ensure their closure on first demand within your performance standard.
The firm also failed to show that when the pipelines were closed that a leakage test that was within the performance standard.]
The inspector concluded that the two pipelines were “not being maintained in an efficient state, in efficient working order and in good repair”.
An improvement notice has been issued.
EOG has until the end of September to show compliance with the notice.
