Major offshore industry players gathered for the third Oil and Gas Project Management conference in Aberdeen this week to explore practical ways to improve project performance.
With research from the Oil and Gas Authority showing that fewer than a quarter of North Sea projects are delivered on time and the average project experiencing a 35% overspend, the conference at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre heard insights from industry participants on how they are working together to drive improvements on major projects across the UK Continental Shelf.
This year’s event, organised by the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB) and the Offshore Project Management Steering Group (OPMSG), heard from leading industry figures, including Gunther Newcombe, operational director of the Oil and Gas Authority, who called on operators and the supply chain to share good practice and adopt collaborative working to drive better performance.
Jim Lenton, managing director of Integrated Solutions at WorleyParsons and chair of the OMPSG, said: “Improving project delivery is critical to the economic health of the oil and gas industry in the UK. This conference has highlighted some of our challenges and what we can achieve by working together. It is clear that change is needed and doing what we have always done won’t be the answer.”
