Hundreds of decommissioning industry leaders will gather in Fife this week for a major conference on the future of the multi-billion pound sector.
The Decom North Sea event at Fairmont St Andrews will include sessions on regulation, the decommissioning marketplace and global supply chain and on technological advances that can potentialy drive down costs.
Among the contributors will be Oil & Gas UK director Michael Tholen, Ian Fozdar, the Oiland Gas Authority’s infrastructure decommissioning manager for the UK Continental Shelf, outgoing Decom North Sea chief executive Roger Esson and Wendy Kennedy, CEO of the Offshore Petroleum Regulator for Environment and Decommissioning.
Delegates will also have the chance to get up to speed with local decommissioning projects including Dundee’s bid to become a major decom hub.
In August, Norwegian industrial giant AF Gruppen Offshore Decom signed a heads of terms agreement with local decom body Dundeecom to establish a major new rig recycling facility at the city’s docks.
Work on progressing that multi-million pound project is ongoing while the dock owner, Forth Ports, is nearing the end of a £10million redevelopment of Prince Charles Wharf that will ensure the quayside is capable of handling the stress-loads that come with handling thousands of tonnes of steel..
Callum Falconer, chief executive of Dundeecom, said the conference offered a good opportunity to showcase Dundee.
He said: “We are currently establishing relationships between the new company (AF) and the existing port tenants in order to present a really compelling decommissioning business to the supply chain.”
