An increase in natural gas production in the American region of Appalachia is driving overall US natural gas production.
According to the Energy Information Administration (EIA), there had been rapid growth in natural gas production in the region since 2012.
The EIA have release data stating the rise in production is as high as 14 billion cubic feet per day.
The reason for the rise, according to the independent research group EIA, is due to an increase in ‘efficiency improvements in horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing in the region’.
Other efficiency improvement includes ‘faster drilling, longer laterals, advancements in technology, and better targeting of wells’, which have all helped speed up the process.
