Drilling contractor KCA Deutag has netted an £80million-plus contract in Ukraine.
The Aberdeen group’s Bentec subsidiary has been contracted to supply five drilling rigs to Ukrainian company UkrGasVydobuvannya (UGV), part of state-owned Naftogaz, with delivery taking place over the next 18 months.
Bentec chief executive Dirk Schulze said, “Our drilling rigs are some of the best in the world and we look forward to supporting UGV in their 2020 strategy by providing them with the capability to significantly improve rig operating performance at a reduced cost.”
UGV chief executive Oleg Prokhorenko added: “This contract award is crucial for UGV and has only been made possible thanks to the coordinated work of our technical specialists.
“We look forward to working closely with Bentec as we move forward.”
The five rigs, which incorporate the latest in drilling technology, will be predominantly manufactured from locally sourced Ukraine steel.
Germany-based Bentec will establish local services in the Ukraine to provide maintenance support.
UGV’s Concept 2020 strategy seeks to grow its drilling capacities and increase Ukraine’s natural gas production by 30%, or up to 706.3billion cubic feet annually.
