A tanker collided with an offshore production platform on New Year’s Eve.
The incident took place 15 miles southwest of Den Helder, the Netherlands. Emergency services, including the Dutch Coast Guard were alerted. The Elsa Essbeger crashed into the Q1 Halfweg platform; however, the tanker’s cargo remained intact despite the tanker’s bow suffering significant damage.
The crew was unharmed and the tanker was not thought to be in any further danger.
The platform was taken over by Petrogas Exploration and Production Netherlands (PEPN) in 2014. However, the firm pulled out of the Dutch sector in March last year due to the falling oil price.
It has been shut-in since.
