What better way to ring in the New Year offshore than with a traditional rendition of ‘Auld Lange Syne’?
North Sea piper Russel Walker saw his video achieve viral fame, after racking up more than 42,000 views on Facebook.
The offshore musician posted the film from the support vessel the Safe Boreas, which is currently contracted by Statoil for its flagship UK North Sea Mariner development.
The North Sea take on the classic was a hit with viewers, garnering dozens of positive comments and hundreds of shares. Son Ja Las commented: “Well done! This is great! Nice to see some spirit for the guys offshore to try keep some of the magic of Christmas and new year when you’re so far away from friends and family.”
The development of the Mariner field will contribute more than 250 mmbbls reserves with average plateau production of around 55,000 barrels per day. The field will provide a long term cash-flow over 30 years. Production is expected to start later this year.
