About 40% of students want a job that lets them give something back to the world, a new survey by oil giant Shell indicates.
More than a third believe employers expect them to have strong digital skills and a quarter think they’ll need a “global mindset” to thrive in their careers.
Shell said the research showed students have clearly defined expectations for their careers.
Seventy-eight percent fear they’ll face more competition than their parents’ generation when it comes to getting graduate jobs.
Jeroen de Weerd, vice president of recruitment at Shell, says: “This research shows that having a good CV is just the beginning for today’s graduates.
“Students set to enter the jobs market in 2018 and beyond have clearly defined expectations of their own careers.
“However, they are also aware of the need to display a more diverse skillset than any other generation in history.”
The poll was commissioned by Shell Ideas360, a global programme challenging university students to share ideas that can help tackle pressures on the world’s resources.
More than 1,100 UK university students took part.
