Calls were made yesterday for new energy minister Claire Perry to prioritise a visit to Aberdeen to meet oil and gas leaders.
Aberdeen South MP Ross Thomson has written to Ms Perry asking her to visit the north-east “at the earliest opportunity” to continue the working relationship between the UK Government and industry.
The Scottish Conservative MP highlighted how Chancellor Philip Hammond has given the industry tax breaks worth £2.3 billion as well as creating the UK Oil and Gas Authority.
He said: “The UK Government has a good working relationship with the North Sea oil and gas industry, and is playing a vital role in ensuring maximum economic recovery of remaining reserves.
“However, there has been a sense of frustration within the industry about the high turnover of energy ministers in recent years.
“I have outlined to the incoming minister just how vital this sector is – not only for the north-east, but for the wider UK economy.
“Oil and gas has contributed hundreds of billions of pounds to the UK Exchequer over the years, and there is plenty more life left in the North Sea.
“It’s imperative the minister gets off on the right foot and agrees to come to Aberdeen and meet industry leaders as soon as possible.”
