Stena Drilling said yesterday that a new contract award meant it could “re-evaluate” plans to lay off workers.
Aberdeen-based Stena said last month it was in consultation with a total of 450 people employed between three drillships currently warm-stacked in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria.
The drilling contractor said about 57 of those involved in the consultation live in Aberdeen or Aberdeenshire.
At the time, Stena managing director Erik Ronsberg said he hoped winning new contracts would help the company limit the number of redundancies it has to make.
Earlier this week, Energean Oil and Gas said it had booked the Stena Forth drillship, one of the vessels stacked in Las Palmas, for three wells off Israel at the start of 2019.
Mr Ronsberg said: “Stena Drilling is delighted to have signed a contract with Energean Oil and Gas for a drilling campaign commencing in the 1st quarter of 2019.
“This contract, together with the other opportunities we are tendering for, gives us more confidence and allows us to re-evaluate the personnel affected by the consultations.”
