The crew of a vessel detained in a north-east harbour for more than a year could finally be paid next month.
Workers on board the Malaviya Seven have been waiting for £714,000 in wages after spending 18 months stuck in Aberdeen’s port because the ship’s former owner was liquidated.
Yesterday, after a long-running court battle, a sheriff ordered the release of money to the International Transport Workers’ Federation to pay them.
The ship left Aberdeen on Saturday after it was sold to a Norwegian company and the crew have now returned to India.
Doug Duncan, the port chaplain, said: “There are a few channels for the money to go through but I hope it will be with them by the end of February.”
