An offshore worker was airlifted from a North Sea platform and taken to Shetland in a medical emergency yesterday afternoon.
Despite the wintry conditions, the casualty was transferred to Gilbert Bain Hospital in Lerwick.
The alarm was raised at the platform, 200 miles north-east of Aberdeen, at 12:20pm today (Thursday).
The condition of the patient is unknown.
A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said: “The HM Coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Shetland was sent to assist with the medical transfer at around 12.20pm today. The Lewick Coastguard Rescue Team was sent to assist at the landing site at Tingwall Airport where the casualty was transferred to a land ambulance to be taken off to hospital.”
