Swedish renewable giant Vattenfall has announced its intention to invest nearly £90million in solar PV projects 0ver the next two years.
The company has confirmed its intention to develop new large-scale solar power plants over 2018 and 2019.
These developments will see Vattenfall invest big in projects where the firm believe they can use existing infrastructure to reduce overall costs, such as with the Parc Cynog combined wind and solar farm in Wales.
Vattenfall has said that it also intends to facilitate ‘decentralised energy generation for both private customers and business customers’ to provide new energy options for customers to enable them to ‘generate and consume their own solar PV electricity’.
Magnus Hall, Vattenfall’s president and CEO, said: “Solar power is an important supplement to wind power as a renewable source of energy. We are now increasing the investment budget for solar power to satisfy our customers’ increased interest and demand. From electricity consumers, who can obtain electricity from our future solar farms, but also from potential customers, who want to both consume and generate electricity from solar power.”
Investment decisions have been taken by Vattenfall for three large solar installation in the Netherlands, including the Haringvliet solar farm which will a 40MW capacity and 130,00 solar PV panels.
