A FORMER Shell boss in Aberdeen could be in line to succeed Sir Frank Chapman as chief executive of British oil and gas operator BG Group.
Chris Finlayson has been promoted to BG’s board as part of the firm’s succession plans between now and Sir Frank’s retirement before the end of 2013.
Mr Finlayson, a former deputy managing director at Shell Expro in Aberdeen from 1998-2000, has also moved from his role as BG’s executive vice-president for the Europe and central Asia regions to managing director of BG Advance, which oversees the company’s technology, innovation and exploration work.
BG said yesterday that two other senior managers were also in the running for the chief executive position: Fabio Barbosa, who will add strategy and portfolio development to his chief financial officer role, and executive director Martin Houston, who will become chief operating officer for the oil and gas group’s regions and assets.
BG chairman Sir Robert Wilson said: “Chris brings over 35 years of technical and commercial experience in the oil and gas industry, which he gained in a variety of international settings and businesses. The board will benefit greatly from his skills and experience.
“The creation of these three expanded board-level roles means we have an appropriate internal succession process under way, in addition to an external search, to replace Sir Frank Chapman when he retires as chief executive before the end of 2013.”
