YOUNG north-east engineering firm Motive Offshore Services said yesterday it had completed its first major manufacturing contract.
It has handed over a £100,000 spooler it built for energy service group Oceaneering International.
Motive, which manufactures and hires machinery for the offshore energy industry and only started trading in January, is based at Cornhill, north of Huntly.
It employs 15 people at the moment but director Russell Brown said that by the year-end the workforce would be at least 20.
He said first-year turnover was expected to be nearly £1million, while Motive’s second-year target was £1-£2million.
Mr Brown added that he hoped the completion of the Oceaneering contract would be a watershed moment for Motive, which also won a recent crane-hire contract with subsea construction and inspection, repair and maintenance firm Bibby Offshore.
Mr Brown said: “The market is very buoyant and we have a good number of large inquiries from blue-chip oil and gas companies.
“The inquiry book is full so the outlook remains very positive.”
