Norwegian operator Aker BP has made a non-commercial discovery with the Svanefjell wildcat well in the Barents Sea.
The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) said Aker BP’s 7221/12-1 well is located 20kilometres west of the Langlitinden well, 175km north-west of Hammerfest.
The Deepsea Stavanger drilling rig encountered a total gas column of about 20 metres in the upper part of the Snadd formation, of which a total of 7 metres of sandstone layers with good to moderate reservoir quality.
NPD said the discovery is “not considered to be commercial at this time”.
