Knight Property Group is to develop more industrial buildings on a speculative basis at Kingshill Commercial Park in Westhill, near Aberdeen.
The commercial property developer said yesterday it was going ahead with further work on the site due to the success of existing units.
It has also been encouraged by a recent pre-let deal for another new-build with Ellon-based engineering firm Power Jacks.
Aberdeen-headquartered Knight is now planning five smaller industrial properties, each of 2,500sq ft.
Paul Richardson, partner at letting agent Ryden, said: “The market is in desperate need of smaller, high-quality buildings and we are already experiencing good levels of occupier interest.
“This is also the first speculative development of terraced industrial units in Aberdeen for about 10 years.
“This highlights that Knight Property Group is positive about the Aberdeen industrial market and happy to continue to invest in the area.
“We would anticipate being in a position to announce some deals in the forthcoming months.”
Knight managing director James Barrack said: “Over the years we have proactively built property based on occupiers’ needs.
“By diversifying the style of build, we feel this strengthens not only Kingshill Commercial Park as a whole but offers new businesses the opportunity to be based in prime business areas.”
The five new properties, which will together comprise Unit 6 at Kingshill, are expected to be ready for occupation in September.
Kingshill can accommodate up to 10 buildings ranging from 10,000-17,000sq ft.
According to Knight, full development of the site could bring in around 1,000 workers.
Power Jacks is shifting to Westhill after agreeing to sell its site to neighbour BrewDog.
